Emberfall Chronicle
Emberfall Chronicle is the kind of mobile RPG that respects your time without dumbing itself down. Combat is turn-based and leans on positioning and elemental matchups rather than endless grinding, which meant most fights felt like small puzzles I could actually plan around.
The writing carries it. The companions bicker, change their minds, and occasionally surprise you, and I found myself choosing dialogue options based on who I liked rather than what gave better rewards. The soundtrack deserves a mention too, it's understated and fits the slower moments.
My only gripe is the inventory screen, which gets cluttered once you've picked up a few dozen items. Otherwise this is one of the more complete RPG experiences I've played on a phone this year.
What we liked
- Thoughtful turn-based battles
- Characters you actually care about
- Generous checkpoint system
